The Group is built on an ALTERNATIVE RISK TRANSFER (ART) philosophy as a differentiator and an alternative to conventional insurance solutions. Initially Cell Insurance company was established in 2003 to offer Risk Management Services to the Power Utility ZESA. It has since grown into a group with three business units, Cell Insurance the short-term insurance arm, CellMed Health Medical Fund and Nectacare Pvt Ltd.

The Cell Group has established a major footprint in the mining, energy, hospitality, and the SMEs sector, offering seamless risk management solutions to drive Zimbabwe’s Industry and Commerce. The short-term arm, Cell Insurance (Private) Limited, is the flagship of the Group. It first opened its doors to the public in 2004 in Harare, offering both the differentiated Alternative Risk Transfer solutions and conventional insurance products. In 2009 the Company entered an expansionist drive exploring growth opportunities in new business sectors. The expansion resulted in the birth of CellMed Medical Aid Fund as well as entrance into the SADC region.

The SADC regional expansion saw the birth of Lidwala Insurance company in Eswatini. To complete the growth and diversification drive, the Group formed Nectacare in 2013 consolidating its product and service offering.
